What is Central Co-op Membership?

Being a Central Co-op Member means you own a share of the business and you get a chance to be part of a Member-run community and enjoy many great benefits.

Member events, exclusive Member offers and rewarding Members with a Share of our Profits, there’s a lot to get excited about.

Being part of Central Co-op means contributing to the amazing impact we have on our local communities and building strong relationships with other Members in your area.

What is a Co-op?

A co-operative is an organisation made up of Members who work together to decide how it’s run. This means that every Member is a part-owner of Central Co-op.
One of the things that sets us apart from a normal business is that we reinvest a percentage of our profits into our local communities.

How do I become a Central Co-op Member?

You can join Membership by downloading our app or by visiting our website.
You will pay £1 to become a Member. We’re owned by our Members and so £1 is the cost of owning a share in Central Co-op and this Membership then rewards you with many great benefits, like converting your points earned into a Share of our Profits twice a year.

Some of our Members who joined prior to 28 Feb 2023, will not have paid £1, but will be earning points for their £1 share. Once you have earned enough points to cover the £1 share, all future points earned will go towards being rewarded with a share of our profits.

Full Membership

Full Membership, with associated democratic rights begins once you hold a £1 share and remain a Member for 6 months thereafter. Full Members can vote on Society matters and apply for community funding. Full terms and conditions can be found at www.members.coop/terms

Member benefits at Central Co-op

Earn points while you shop

Scan your Membership card every time you’re at the till and you’ll earn points for your shopping. Once you have your £1 share, we’ll convert any points you earn into ££’s to spend in store, as part of our Share of the Profits.

Exclusive Member classes and events.

Get to know other Members in your community with our local classes. Whether it’s a creative writing course, line dancing lessons or a yoga class, this is a great chance to meet people in your area and learn a new skill while you do it!

Exclusive Member offers

We have hundreds of great offers exclusive for our Members in store. You can enjoy some great low prices on many of the everyday essential items we sell like bread, milk and cheese. We have offers for fresh items, tinned, dairy, bakery, frozen and even household. We have amazing offers right across our store which will help you keep your costs lower whilst also rewarding your spend with points.

Your Share of the Profits

One of our Member favourites! Because we are Member-owned, we distribute our trading surplus with our Members. Your points are converted into a dividend which is loaded onto your Membership card which Members* can then spend in our stores. Learn more about Share of the Profits here.

Have your say on how we’re run

All of our Members are part-owners of our co-operative. As a full Member*, you can help us make decisions on how we work as a community and vote for board Members and on other business decisions whether this be at twice yearly Members meetings, or you can decide to join your local Membership Community Council.

Community funding

Community is a big part of being a co-operative, so our full Members* will be invited to nominate local causes to receive a grant of up to £5,000. As a Member of your local area, you’ll have a great idea of which schools, charities or local businesses could use a helping hand.

*Full Membership, with associated democratic rights* begins once you hold a £1 share and remain a Member for 6 months thereafter. Full Members can vote on Society matters and apply for community funding. Full terms and conditions can be found at www.members.coop/terms
